This morning I came across something from my friend, online business guru Mike Dillard, which speaks directly to the heart of why Video is so essential to business today.
Mike says that there’s been a shift, and we’re now operating in a “trust-based” economy.
This means it’s not really about the product or service you’re offering, it’s about who you are and the relationship you’re having with your marketplace.
The Internet is a Facebook place. No matter what business you’re in, this means you’ve got
to find a way to step out and develop a personal relationship with your marketplace (in a virtual way, of course).
This isn’t about telling us about the muffin you’re having at Starbucks, or divulging the details of some childhood trauma.
We humans are herd creatures. We have an innate biological drive to group together. And phenomena like Facebook and other social media have upped the ante on being real.
And this includes your business. Inauthenticity can be sensed a mile away. And when it comes to business – to the genuine go the spoils.
It’s no accident that the top businesses are embracing Video and thriving. The Internet has become highly Video-centric and will become even more so. Those who’ve resisted the trend are quickly gone and forgotten.
Can you even remember their names?
To some this trend is intimidating. I understand! Coming from a professional film background myself, the amateur factor of early YouTube made me shudder. Could I somehow embrace this rough-edged new medium that instantly archives every botched attempt?
Fortunately we’ve come a long way in the past 6 years and although there’s a big crowd out there, you now have an ALLY with the potent combination of top quality + high authenticity + good SEO.
So, I hereby invite you to stop the resisting, step out, and let yourself personally connect! Embrace Video, move with the current of this new trust-based economy – and let’s see what kind of amazing results you can get!
Don’t wait till later.
And then go over to the Mall and have some fun – it’s Christmas!

Barbara,
Well said. Video blogs are easy to do and quite effective in creating deeper relationships.

Barbara,
You are correct. Building relationships is one of the key foundations of success and video certainly helps do that, especially online.
